The Emir of Gombe, HRH Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, has said the participation of young people in democracy promotes active citizenship and enhance democratic process and institutions.
Alhaji Abubakar stated this on Thursday in Abuja at the 16th Daily Trust Dialogue, themed, “Youth and Democracy: The Nigerian Challenge”
The Emir, who is also the special guest of honour, noted that Nigeria has a large youthful population, but said they must build their capacity to contribute meaningfully to the country’s progress and prosperity.
He said the theme of the event was of personal interest to him not only because of his age but also his hope and aspirations.
Since ascension to the throne, the royal father said he had been consistent in his support for youth development in Gombe and Nigeria as a whole.
He said his effort in championing girl-child education has recorded constant progress.
