161 students get financial assistance in Bauchi

A Project Manager with Abuja office of UNESCO, Dr Safiya Iliyasu has selected161 indigent students from Bauchi State studying in various tertiary institutions across the country to benefit from a scholarship scheme she initiated.

She revealed this in Bauchi while giving out scholarship to10 pioneer students for the scholarship.

The beneficiaries that are made up of seven women and three men were students of the College for Shari’a and Arabic Studies (CSAS) Dutsen Tanshi in Bauchi.

Dr Iliyasu who was represented by a former Special Adviser to Governor Mohammed Abubakar on Education, Aliyu Jibo Dass,said that the gesture is to assist the beneficiaries to have access to quality education and become productive citizens of the state.

According to her, most of the beneficiaries are married women who are out of school due to lack of money to pay for their school fees.

She revealed that each of the beneficiaries will be given N17,000 to cover their tuition fees.

The educationist further informed that 20 students from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria and Bayero University Kano (BUK) were given scholarship under her scholarship scheme a week ago.

She added that other beneficiaries, which she said were carefully selected to ensured that those truly in need of helping hands to complete their tertiary education, will b given their scholarships shortly.

Responding, the secretary of the College, Mallam Musa Haruna commended Dr Iliyasu and her group for the gesture.

She said that many people have made different promises but have not fulfil them.

He therefore, prayed for success in her future endeavours and urging her to continue helping the less privileged in the society.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to Dr Iliyasu for helping them.
