The football pitch is set as 16 teams across the country battle for honours ahead of the 2024 5Star Premier League season which is scheduled to kick off on June 15, 2024 at the Turf Arena, Abuja.

The league which is in sixth season, will see the teams trade tackles in different states such as Kaduna, Benin and Lagos is scheduled to reach the climax on October 12, 2024.

Speaking with our correspondent, the coordinator of the league, Olumide Aturu said he was ecstatic at the success stories of the league. According to him, over 12 players from the league have moved to other countries to ply their trades.

“This is the sixth edition and we are proud to say that we have done a lot in grassroots football in Nigeria as we have expanded our shores to Kaduna and Benin from previous expansions to Delta and Ibadan, Abuja, Lagos. It is beautiful that members of the grassroots community are keying into this project.

“Again, the 7-aside initiative is getting bigger and better. We have had over 12 successful transfers where the players move to other countries to live their dream. That is what we stand for. We believe this initiative can spark others and help Nigeria as a country, even helping our GDP to grow,” he said.

Speaking further, the Nationwide Football League (NLO) Chief Operating Officer, Olusola Ogunowo is optimistic the coming season will be better than the previous season while lauding the successes recorded so far.

“I superintendent over grassroot football in Nigeria and this is purely a grassroot event. They have always been with the NLO and we have their technical partners. We expect more from them this season. They have been doing so much and they have always improved from the previous seasons. So, we believe this year will be better than previous seasons. I am happy they have recorded this much and we want to see them grow bigger than this,” he said.
