16 remanded over political violence in Katsina

The suspects were charged with criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance and mischief by fire, according to the First Information Report of the police.
The prosecuting police officer, Altine Ragiji, told the court that the suspects were arrested on Jan.20, at about 8.45pm around WTC roundabout when about 100 youths armed with machetes, knives and other weapons set ablaze a makeshift office of the PDP.  The officer said their actions are contrary to Sections 97, 114 and 339 of the Penal Code.
The magistrate, Nura El-Ladan, ordered that the accused be remanded, as the court has neither the jurisdiction to hear the matter nor grant them bail.
