152 scavengers paraded over theft, others in Abuja

The FCT Police Command has paraded 152 scavengers, popularly known as baban bola, for allegedly engaging in various kinds of theft of household items and government property.

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Benneth Igweh, who paraded the suspects before newsmen at the former SARS office in Abuja on Thursday, said they were arrested in a coordinated raid on some black spots in Jabi, Karu, Mabushi, Jabi Daki-Biyu, among other criminal hideouts, in Abuja.

He said, “Some of these suspects hide under the guise of scavenging to commit crimes such as robbery and snatching of cars and motorcycles, which led our men to recover two guns during raids in black spots in Zuba and Dei-Dei.”
