At least 15,000 victims of the 2022/2023 floods would benefit from the Federal Government Special National Economic and Livelihood intervention (SNELEI) in Borno State.

The Director General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mustapha Habib, disclosed this to newsmen on Tuesday during the flag-off of distribution of food and non-food items to the most vulnerable households in Maiduguri.

The DG, represented by the head of the programme, Aliyu Shehu Kafin-dangi, noted that the beneficiaries were carefully selected and verified by the staff of NEMA, SEMA, and other stakeholders across the state.

Also speaking, the North East Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Mr Sirajo Abdullahi, warned the beneficiaries against selling the items, saying it’s a lifeline for them to recover from the shock.

On behalf of the LG chairmen, Mr Inuwa Bwala described the palliative distribution as the best having involved the 27 local government areas in the distribution exercise.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijjani, Governor Babagana Zulum commended the federal government for the intervention, saying it would go a long way in alleviating the suffering of the victims.
