1,400 women begin training on cosmetology in Kaduna

Over 1,400 women selected from the 23 local government areas of Kaduna state have started a two-week apprenticeship training on cosmetology as part of efforts by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) to make the teeming unemployed Nigerians self-reliant.

The Kaduna state coordinator of the directorate, Sani Maiwada said at the commencement of the training that 600 men have also begun three months technical training in various skills including GSM repair, carpentry, tailoring, and barbing and satellite installation among others.

The directorate had earlier flagged off the training of 74,600 persons nationwide out of which Kaduna is training 2,000 people.

He said the essence of the training is to empower unemployed youths and women with a view to making them self-reliant and afterwards, employers of labour. 

While he appealed to the beneficiaries to take the training very seriously, he urged youth in the state not to look down on vocational skills, saying it remains key to reducing the number of unemployed Nigerians to the barest minimum.
