Police in Niger State have arrested 14-year-old Joy Afekafe, suspected to have masterminded the killing of Associate Professor Adefolalu Funmilola Sherifat, a lecturer with the Department of Biochemistry, Federal University of Technology Minna, Niger State.
Daily Trust reported how the deceased was reportedly slaughtered in her residence at Gbaiko Area of Minna, the state capital on Saturday.
The prime suspect who worked as a housemaid for the deceased lecturer was reportedly laid off two days before the deceased was killed for her alleged misconduct.
Parading the suspect, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun said Joy Afekafe was the prime suspect in the case.

According to Abiodun, “The police swung into action and carried out series of interviews from the neighborhood and friends of the family, while investigation led to the arrest of the deceased’s housemaid, one Joy Afekafe ‘f’ aged 14yrs of Gbeganu, Minna on 30/10/2023 at about 2100hrs at a residence within Gbeganu area of Minna.”
He added that “During interrogation, the suspect confessed that she served as the deceased’s housemaid for about three weeks, and she was laid off due to her misdeed in the house. After she was laid off, she met her classmates called Walex and Smart, narrated her ordeal to them and conspired to attack the lecturer at her residence.”
He said the suspect told the police that she took two of her male friends to the residence of the deceased on October 28 around 4pm with a motorcycle.
