14 remanded for burning vigilante office, commander’s house in Kano

A Kano State Sharia court sitting in Kwana Hudu has remanded 14 people for allegedly burning a vigilante office in Hotoro and also setting ablaze the house of the vigilante commandant in the area.

The suspects were accused of taking the law into their hands thereby committing an offence which led to loss of wealth contrary to Sections 120, 190, 363 of SPCL.

The suspects are Aminu Abdullahi, Jamilu Ali, Babangida Dahiru, Muhammad Salisu, Khalifa Abdullahi, and Umar Adamu.

Others are Aliyu Abdullahi, Abubakar Sunusi, Aminu Sulaiman, Umar Musa, Zubairu Muhammad, Isyaku Amin, Kabiru Ahmad and a female Nusaiba Musa.

Earlier, the suspects were sued by the vigilante commandant of Hotoro that they burnt their office and also set his house ablaze. He said as a result he lost wealth amounting to N5m.

They were also accused of setting fire on a shop were a POS business was operating, burnt down N330,000 cash and snatched phones valued at N40,000.

When the prosecution counsel, Aliyul Abidin, read the charges against them, all of them pleaded not guilty.

The Judge, Nura Yusuf Ahmad, ordered that they should be remanded in a correctional centre and adjourned the case to June 13.
