He added that the accident might have been caused by a tyre burst that led to loss of control.

Abdullahi said the lone fatal accident involved a Toyota Hiace bus belonging to the Bauchi State government with 22 people on board who had fractures and bruises.

He said corpses and victims were evacuated to the Kafin Madaki General Hospital for treatment and confirmation, adding that arrangements were being made to transfer victims with serious injuries to the Abubakar Tafawa Teaching Hospital in Bauchi for further treatment.

Similarly, another ghastly motor accident on Sunday claimed lives of five passengers among whom were twins along Kaduna-Abuja highway.

Daily Trust gathered that 21 people were involved in the accident and the injured were rushed to hospital for treatment.

The bodies of one adult, two women and the twin brothers were deposited at St. Gerald Hospital. Belongings of the victims were scattered at the scene of the accident.

When contacted, the FRSC Acting Sector Commander, Lawal Garba who confirmed the accident said the injured were responding to treatment.

“Five people died in the accident. One adult, two women and two children in the same cloth like twins, while the injured were taken to different hospitals,” he said.

According to him, over speeding led to the collision of the two vehicles as he cautioned drivers against dangerous overtaking.

In a related development, three persons on Sunday died while six others sustained varying degrees of injuries in an accident along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The accident occurred around 5.50am at the Kara Turning along the highway.

The FRSC spokesman in Ogun State, Florence Okpe confirmed the accident to journalists on Sunday.

According to her, 18 persons who are all male adults were involved in the accident.

She said, “Six persons sustained various degrees of injuries and unfortunately three persons were recorded dead from the crash and the remaining people were unhurt.

“Two vehicles were involved in the accident. A Toyota Hiace bus with registration number, AYB 88 XP and another vehicle with no registration number.

“The suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed from the bus driver who made an attempt to overtake the truck, but was not successful, rather he lost control and hit the truck at the rear and the truck did not stop.

“The injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital for medical attention while the corpses were deposited at Idera Hospital morgue Sagamu,” Okpe said.

She said the state Sector Commander of the FRSC, Ahmed Umar, described the crash as unavoidable if caution was put in place and the passengers playing their rules while in the vehicle by cautioning the driver against reckless driving.
