A car crash on the Kanya highway has resulted in the death of 14 people, with four others hospitalised.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when a Daf truck and a Toyota Hiace collided head-on.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Toyota Hiace was travelling at high speed and attempted to overtake near an immigration checkpoint, leading to the collision. The impact claimed the lives of 14 passengers, while four others sustained serious injuries.
The Jigawa State Police Command responded to the scene, transporting the victims to Kanya Babba Cottage Hospital.

Medical personnel at the hospital confirmed the death of the victims, saying the injured are currently receiving medical treatment.
DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the command’s Public Relations Officer, stated that an investigation into the incident has been initiated, focusing on the suspected reckless driving of the Toyota Hiace driver. The identities of the deceased have been withheld pending notification of their families.
