A total of 137 clubs will be participating in the oldest cup competition in Nigeria, the Lagos FA Cup which is set to begin today at match venues across the commercial centre of the country.
The Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) has approved the registration of 127 men and 10 women clubs for the competition.
The chairman of the technical committee of the Lagos FA, Adedotun Coker has said the first round of matches will be among amateur clubs, while the professional league clubs will begin their campaign in the round of 32.
“We are looking forward to the 58 rookies that will slug it out in the first round. We have decided that 29 teams will qualify for the next stage from the amateur matches. The NLO and NNL teams would begin their campaign in the round 16 and 32.
“So presently what we are going to witness on Wednesday (today) is rookies match in various centres,” said Coker.
Strong Tower football pitch, Ikorodu, Zumaratu football pitch, Ikorodu; Odion Ighalo sports centre, Ajegunle; Unity Primary School, Ajegunle; Legacy pitch of National Stadium, Surulere; Alade sports centre, Ipaja Command and Rehabilitation centre, Isheri, Ojodu Berger are some of the venues selected to host the matches.
