134 bags First Class in Uniben

No fewer than 134 graduates of the University of Benin, have been awarded with First Class degree in the 2017/2018 academic session.

Uniben’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Faraday Orumwese, disclosed this in Benin on Wednesday during the press briefing heralding the 44th Convocation/48th Founder’s Day lecture ceremonies of the institution.

Prof. Orumwense explained that a total of 8,276 students graduated from the university in the 2017/2019 academic session but that 134 of them graduated with first class, Second Class Upper 2,122, Second Class Lower 4,864, Third Class 1,156 while one graduated with pass.

Prof. Orumwense disclosed that the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission(NERC) has  granted the University a license to operate under the Public Private Partnership arrangement a 15 mega watt photo voltaic solar power project in the institution.

He also disclosed that the Archbishop of Church of God Mission International and Chancellor, Benson Idahosa University (BIU), Magaret Idahosa, will  be conferred with honorary degree for her outstanding contributions to education and human capital development in Nigeria.

He added that  a Senior professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, School of Medicine, College of Medical Sciences, University of Benin, Prof. Augustine Orhue, will also be conferred with the honour of Professor Emeritus during the ceremonies.‎

Prof. Orumwense explained that since he took over as the vice chancellor of the institution, there has been stable academic calender and peace on campus leading to the achievement recorded in his tenure.‎
