The occupants of the bus, our reporter learnt, were indigenes of one of the communities in Etche and were heading to Imo State for the traditional marriage of one of their sons when the incident occurred.
Community sources blamed the incident on overspeeding, adding that when both vehicles collided the bus somersaulted several times.
The source revealed that eleven passengers in the bus died on the spot while two others died while being taken to the hospital.
When contacted, the spokesman of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident.
Omoni said five corpses have been recovered.
He said the state police command had launched an investigation into the incident.
