The 13 villagers, who were abducted by bandits at Unguwar Liman in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, are still in captivity 60 days after their abduction.

The villagers were part of the 30 people abducted in the community on December 10, 2023.

It was gathered that the villagers’ abductors refused to free them because the ransom that was demanded couldn’t be met by family members.

Daily Trust recalled that the bandits collected N6.5 million with the agreement to release all the victims a few weeks after their abduction.

The bandits, however, freed only 17 victims and demanded an additional N16 million for the remaining victims in December 2023.

A community leader, Malam Jafaru Anaba on Thursday, said the bandits are now demanding N5 million and two motorcycles from the villagers before they will be released.

“We just finished talking with the bandits on the phone, they are demanding an additional N5 million and two motorcycles as ransom before the victims will be released. As we speak, the 13 persons have been in captivity for 60 days suffering,” he said.

According to him, the community pleaded with the bandits to accept N1 million and two motorcycles but they rejected it, saying it was not enough.

Jafaru explained that they were told the victims were not allowed to pray five times a day or even to take their baths in captivity all this while.

The community leader said they understand the bandits are keeping the victims at a location near Anguwar Gamba in Igabi South, close to Galadima village in Giwa LGA.

He urged security agencies conducting operations around the area to take advantage by using a jet to attack the bandits’ camp, which was in the open.
