12th convocation: Nile varsity achieves 91% graduate employability – VC

Nile University of Nigeria is set to graduate over 1,800 students during its 12th convocation ceremony on Thursday. 

The vice chancellor, Dilli Dogo, announced that the university’s graduate employability rate has reached an impressive 91%. 

This achievement, he explained, is the result of strengthened academic programs and strategic partnerships focused on equipping students with practical skills.

In a press briefing in Abuja, Professor Dogo highlighted that 91% of the graduating class of 2022 secured employment within a year of finishing their studies. He noted that this positive trend reflects Nile University’s dedication to producing graduates who are ready to join the workforce.

“This year’s employability report shows that 91% of the 2022 graduates were employed within one year of completing their studies. This success underscores our commitment to developing skilled, industry-ready graduates,” he said, emphasising the importance of career services and entrepreneurship training in the university’s approach.

To enhance these efforts, Nile University has heavily invested in facilities and programs that promote practical learning and career development. Recent additions include a new STEM lab, featuring over 20 cutting-edge laboratories, and a medical simulation centre. Additionally, the university boasts a student centre offering career guidance, counselling, and entrepreneurship support services designed to equip students with essential skills beyond the classroom.

In 2023, Nile University expanded its student services by launching Nile Online, a digital learning platform, and a hybrid Executive MBA program. This expansion is in line with the university’s significant growth, which has seen student enrollment increase from over 3,000 in 2020 to more than 12,000 in 2024, following its integration with Honoris United Universities. 

Professor Dogo pointed out that this rapid expansion has been matched by infrastructure growth, including new hostel buildings, additional campus facilities, and the ongoing construction of a Senate building to accommodate future growth.

As part of the convocation events, Dr Usman Mohammed Gur, former Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, will deliver a lecture titled “Sustainable Energy Solutions: Pathways to Nigeria’s Industrial Development.”
