A 12-year-old boy, Lekan Benjamin, has drowned while swimming with his friends in Asa River, Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The incident occurred while Benjamin, a Junior Secondary School (JSS) student, was returning from school.

His corpse was recovered by some personnel from the state Fire Service under Ejiba bridge, off Stadium road, Ilorin.

Daily Trust gathered that the corpse was subsequently handed over to his father, Mr Monday Benjamin, amidst tears from family members and sympathisers.

The Director of the state Fire Service, Mr Falade Olumuyiwa, while speaking with Daily Trust on the incident described it as unfortunate and commiserated with the family of the deceased.

He advised parents to always be mindful of the activities of their children.
