12 die in Zamfara road auto crash

At least 12 people including two children have lost their lives following a ghastly accident in Tsafe Local Government, Zamfara State.

The accident, according to witness occurred at Kucheri village along Funtua-Tsafe road in Tsafe LGA around 1:20pm on Tuesday.

The accident involved 24 people; 22 were travelling in a commercial bus, while the remaining two were in a Toyota Canter.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that a driver of the commercial bus lost control and collided with a moving Toyota Canter, killing 12 passengers in the bus.

The witness added that several other passengers, who sustained various degrees of injuries have been admitted at Tsafe General Hospital.

“The bus driver who was coming from Funtua lost control and rammed the moving truck that was coming from the Tsafe axis. Most of the victims died on the spot,” said the witness.

An official of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, who does not want his name in print because he was not authorised to speak to press, said the accident was caused by reckless driving and overtaking.

“I was among the FRSC officials that carried out the rescue operation at the scene of the accident. Those who were killed in the accident include 10 adults and two children,” he concluded.
