Twelve thousand (12,000) security personnel have been deployed to the 44 local government areas of Kano state for the smooth conduct of local government election scheduled for tomorrow.
Addressing a press conference yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Magaji Musa Majiya, said the security personnel include police, military, DSS, NSCDC, immigration, customs, NAF, prison service, NDLEA, and FRSC.
Majia, however, said no state government own security apparatus such as Hisbah, KARATA, Vigilante, Boys’ Scout and Man ‘O’ war would be allowed to wear uniforms or engage in any activity in uniform on the election day.
The police spokesperson assured that the security agencies would be impartial, professional and civil in discharging their duties, adding that “we will maintain high level of integrity throughout the election period.”
He added that a joint operation centre for all security agencies would always be on ground for effective monitoring of the election.
Majia said that beside the centre, the police control room would make its hotlines available in case of any form of emergency or distress.
He said vehicular movements had been restricted from 6am to 4pm on the Election Day, saying “No vehicles or motorcycles or tricycles will be allowed to operate within the restricted time.”
He also warned that electorates would not be allowed to go to the polling stations or collation centres with bag, boxes or any
suspicious item.
“Carrying offensive weapons/items such as arm and ammunitions, stones, knives, cutlasses, bows and arrows as well as axes on the election day will not be accepted.”
