The chairman of the Board of Trustees of the YETF, Professor Biyi Afonja, made the disclosure at the award of the third donations to 23 students of the area in Ilaro, the headquarters of Yewaland at the weekend.

A breakdown of the figure according to the former Chairman of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) Governing Council and Commissioner in the defunct Western region, showed that 32 students benefited from the awards during its maiden progamme in 2003, shortly after the 2001 inauguration. And as at today, a total of 115 have so far benefited from the scheme, recalling with nostalgia, the contribution of the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr) Sikiru Adetona, “who made handsome donations on a personal note and on behalf of the Ogun State Council of Obas.”

Afonja, who hinted that no meaningful development could take place without sound education of a nation, traced the foundation of the Trust Fund to 1994, when the YETF was formed. He lauded the contributions of the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the immediate past Alake of Egbaland, Late Oba Oyebade Lipede and retired General Adetunji Olurin as some of the illustrious sons of Ogun State, who made the inauguration and subsequent success of the scheme a reality.
