According to a letter made available to Daily Trust by a Global Youth Ambassador for World at School, Mr. Uzomba Chiamaka, the report was conducted in 2014.
The letter explained that the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria has increased over the years from 7 million in 2004 to over 8.7million in 2014 with 57 percent of the figures as girls.
Chiamaka, who advocated more commitment to girls’ education, said the Global Youth Ambassador for a World at School aimed to bring attention to the 57 million children around the world currently being denied their human rights to education.
She said “We could lift more than 170 million people out of poverty simply by teaching every child in low-income countries basic reading skills. So why are we not making this a reality? Unless we reverse the current trends, we will not achieve universal primary education before 2086.”
