11 charged over Kwara fracas

Eleven suspects have been arraigned by the police on a six-count charge of criminal conspiracy, disturbance of public peace, mischief, being suspected members of a secret cult, illegal possession of firearms and armed robbery over a fracas and destruction of several vehicles in the Pakata area of Ilọrin, Kwara State, last week.

The accused are Sodiq Kareem (20), Shuaib Abubakar (20), Ibrahim Tajudeen (23), Abdulganiu Idris (21), Muyideen Soliu (19), Abdulwaheed Ridwanulahi (20), Abdulganiyu Taiye (19), Kehinde Alaro (23), Moshood Yusuf, Taiwo Alaro (23) and one other.

According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), a complainant, Usman Ambali, reported that some hoodlums suspected to be members of a secret cult from Pakata and Itanma communities engaged themselves in fight with weapons.

The FIR reads in part: “A team of policemen was drafted to the scene where a suspect, Sodiq Kareem (20), of lle-Laomi Alfa Yahya area, llorin, was arrested. Investigation led to the arrest of 10 others and recovery of one locally made single-barrel gun, including a cutlass, during an on-the-spot search”

The case was prosecuted by Gbenga Ayeni on behalf of the police.

The Magistrate, M.D. Dasuki, ordered the remand of the suspects and adjourned to October 24, 2023.
