Supporters of Senator Godswill Akpabio have appealed to a former governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, and other contenders to shelve their Senate presidency ambition and support Akpabio to clinch the seat today.
Addressing a press conference yesterday in Abuja, Dr John Harry, the National coordinator of Good Governance Support Group for Akpabio, said the Akwa Ibom State former governor has the competence, capacity and all that is required to stabilise the 10th National Assembly.
He said, “We thank our great party for zoning the office to the South South of Nigeria and we implore all APC elected senators to respect party supremacy in this endeavour.
“In truth, and only the truth, our bias is borne of the fact that Godswill Akpabio represents competence, capacity and carriage. His indelible landmark dotted on the political skies of Akwa Ibom State serves as eloquent testimony.”

He said as former governor, former Senate Minority Leader and former minister, Akpabio has what it takes to unite the lawmakers, work in synergy with the executive for implementation of the ‘Renewed’ Hope’ agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Similarly, a former acting national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yekini Nabena, has appealed to Yani and other contenders in the South including a former governor of Abia State, to shelve their ambitions and support Akpabio to win today’s race.
Nabena, a member of the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) in a statement on Monday said it has become clearer that the North cannot have the vice president, speaker, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and the Senate president at the same time.
He also appealed to the incoming members of the 10th Senate to vote for the APC’s preferred candidates for various offices and especially Akpabio from the South South zone.
“As we thank our great party for zoning the office to the South South of Nigeria, we implore all APC elected senators to respect party supremacy in this endeavour,” he said.
