102 Battalion emerges winner of Guards Brigade competition

Soldiers of 102 Battalion of the elite Guards Brigade emerged winners of the 2016 ‘Corporal Below’ competition organized by the Commander of the Brigade, Brigadier-General Musa Yusuf. The three-day competition involved teams of soldiers selected from five battalions that make up the Brigade, showing expertise and speed in Weapons Handling, Map Reading, Obstacle Crossing and Drill.
Presenting a trophy to the winners of the competition at the Mambila Barracks in Abuja, the Guards Brigade Commander, Brigadier-General Yusuf, said the competition is an important aspect of military training, aimed at enhancing physical fitness and combat-readiness of troops. He said it is also to instil team spirit, self-confidence, leadership, endurance, cooperation and comradeship among troops.
Commanding Officer of 102 Battalion, Colonel S.S Tilawan, praised the Brigade Commander’s push for new steps that have made the competition a fierce contest. He explained that the Brigade Commander randomly selects soldiers from the nominal roll of the battalions, which make up the team that competes on behalf of each battalion.
