Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman/CEO of the company, Mr Femi Otedola, said the free distribution was part of the AP’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and giving support to government policy toward reducing the rate of casualties on the nation’s roads.

Mr Otedola, who was represented by the General Manager (Treasury and Financial Planning), Mrs Omolola Segun-Idahor, said during the first phase of the company’s 2009 CSR project, the donation of crash helmets took place in Lagos.

He said AP, which is a leading player in the downstream sector of the nation’s oil and gas industry, had constantly shown commitment to providing sustainable and practical contributions to projects and programmes that touch the lives of the citizens.

While commending the initiative of the FRSC, the state government and other government agencies toward checking the incessant road accidents, the CEO noted that  the strict use of crash helmets will reduce fatal accidents on the roads.

Continuing, Otedola stated: “We all remember the introduction and strict enforcement of the use of seat belts for drivers and passengers of vehicles, and more recently the use of crash helmet by all motorcyclists in the country.”

He said Kano, being a commercial city, relied heavily on road transportation, and so road safety was important to the socio-economic growth of the state.

Assuring people of continued commitment to CSR, the chairman of the company therefore noted that AP had consistently donated to the needy, offered scholarships to indigent students, and charities to children with special needs.
