At least 100 youths from Orimekpang community of Boki LGA of Cross River State have renounced their membership of different cult groups.
The renunciation was part of the peace and unity effort being championed by concerned citizens and stakeholders in the area.
In the last few years, killings and mayhem by various gangs were rampant.
The public ceremony was conducted by catholic priests led by Rev Father Emmanuel Ukwa.
Fr Ewa thanked God for making it possible for the youths to embrace peace and unity by denouncing cultism.
He preached peace and unity which according to him were paramount to the development of every society.
He advised the youths to turn a new leaf, adding that on no occasion should they return to cultism.
He promised to ensure that the repentant youths were speedily reintegrated into the society through training and empowerment.
Some of the boys regretted their membership and activities and said they were tired of living in bondage.
One of them, Amos Robert, said there was no gain in cultism.
He said, “I am tired of all the attrocities I was committing. I have seen that there is really no gain in cultism.”
