Speaking on the activities of her ministry, the commissioner disclosed that the lunatics were hitherto roaming the streets before they were picked at various locations in Maiduguri Metropolis. They are currently on admission at the hoaspital.
The measure, Hajiya Hauwa said, became imperative so that they would be useful to themselves and to the society and not constitute nuisance to the public.
She said the move would also make the patients to feel a sense of belonging, saying after the treatment they might regain their senses and contribute to the society.
While giving an overview of successes recorded by the ministry, the commissioner revealed that the ministry had rehabilitated and reintegrated over 200 abandoned children.
In the areas of women empowerment and poverty alleviation, Hajiya Hauwa explained that over 4000 women were trained in various skills, including tailoring, knitting, home economics, among others, and had received working tools.
Similarly, the commissioner pointed out that over 800 other women selected from the three senatorial districts of the state received soft loans to enable them establish small scale businesses.
