10 Kebbi PDP lawmakers may defect to APC

The state chairman of the APC, Barr Mohammed Maccido, told Daily Trust in Birnin Kebbi yesterday: “We have 10 PDP members of the state Assembly who are coming to the APC. We have already opened up discussions with them. Even this week, I can categorically tell you that we have about four big shots from the state level. Some of them are occupying very important positions in the state government and will soon tender their resignation letters.”
Our correspondent reliably gathered that the aggrieved lawmakers and other four top government officials met recently in Birnin Kebbi where they resolved that owing to the imposition of candidates by Governor Sa’idu Dakingari and the party leadership, they were left with no option but  to leave the party. A former PDP executive who  confirmed to be among the possible defectors, said their major grouse was the move by the party to deny them the opportunity to re- contest for their seats.
He said: “Yes, it’s true that 10 lawmakers, a serving senator and many of us will soon move to the APC. We will let you know when as soon as we have concluded talks with the APC.” The lawmakers, according to sources, cited alleged impunity in the selection process of candidates to carry the PDP flag in 2015 as the major reason for leaving.
The state PDP Secretary Ibrahim Arzika Biu when contacted said he was not aware of the  move. “I am just hearing this from you now,” he said.
