Ten fraudsters have been convicted and sentenced to various jail terms over internet fraud in Kwara State.
They were prosecuted by the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) before justices Evelyn Anyadike, Adebayo Yusuf and Mahmud Abdulgafar of the federal and state high courts respectively.
Anyadike of the federal high court jailed six of the convicts while his state counterparts convicted two each at separate sittings in Ilọrin.
They were convicted of defrauding some persons through cash app and gift cards of over N5 million and $2,750 among others contrary to and section 17(a) & (b) of the EFCC Act, 2004.
The convicts are Sodiq Shehu, Abdulwaheed Ayomide, Abdulkarim Omotosho, Ekundayo Samuel, Sofiu Abayomi, Evugbemu Emoefe Emmanuel, Ayomide Shitu, Alade Abiodun, Adegoke Gbolahan and Shehu Abdulgafar Bukola.
They all pleaded guilty to the various count charges.
Innocent Mbachie, Andrew Akoja and Mustapha Kaigama prosecuted the cases on behalf of the anti-graft body.
The judges sentenced them to four, six, and 12-months imprisonment with varying options of fine that range from N200,000 to N300,000 except Emmanuel who got no option of fine.
The court also ordered that all the phones, laptops used to perpetrate the crime and various sums of money recovered be forfeited to the Federal Government.
