At least 10 of the 15 governorship candidates in Adamawa State have signed a peace accord ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The event was organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the police at the weekend in Yola.
Hudu Ari, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, said the agreement was to ensure peaceful, credible, free and fair elections, adding that violence-free elections would benefit the state.
Ari explained that the signing of the peace pact was an obligation by all candidates towards the conduct of issue-based campaigns, peaceful polls and urged political parties to educate voters on polling procedures, orderliness and to shun hate speech throughout the exercise.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Sikiru Akande, said, “We will not do anything to make the playing ground unfair to anybody. And when we achieve that, about 90 per cent of the election problems will be over.” he said.
Also speaking, Director of State Services (SSS), Babagana Bulama, called on all political parties and candidates to play the game by the rules and imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship to ensure peace during and after elections.
