The police in Kaduna state have confirmed that 10 persons were shot dead and many injured on Sunday night when unknown gunmen attacked Ungwan Pah II and Gwandara in Jema’a local government area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Yakubu Sabo, disclosed this on Monday while responding to an earlier enquiry from our correspondent in Kaduna.
The PPRO said the Kaduna state Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Abdulrahman, has since ordered policemen to fish out the perpetrators.
He said the areas are calm now as the combine team of security agents have been dispatched to the hotspots.
He called on residents of the areas to remain calm and continue with their normal activities.
Speaking with Daily Trust, one of the victims who survived with gun wound, Peter Joshua, from Gwandara, who spoke at the General Hospital, Kafanchan said they were sitting around 8pm – 9pm when they started hearing gun shots from their neighbouring Ungwan Pah.
“On our way while running for shelter, a bullet crushed my hand before the Police rescued us to Kafanchan General Hospital. I saw many corpses on our way,” he said.
Peter said there wasn’t any grudge between them and local Fulanis residing in Gwandara.
Another witness, Victoria Musa, said they were celebrating Christmas Carol when three unknown persons appeared with guns and instantly started firing at the crowd.
Daily Trust gathered that five dead persons were seen at the General Hospital’s morgue and ten others at Jagindi.
Also speaking with Daily Trust separately at the hospital, the Vice Chairman, Jema’a Local Government, Micah Tanko Ngboni, who represented the Council Chairman and a senior legislative aid to the Southern Kaduna Senator, Joseph Major Baba, condoled with the victims.
They promised to make all possible arrangements for the quick burial of the deceased.
The duo also appealed to residents in the area to remain calm and be law-abiding, saying the government has deployed security men to the area.
It will be recalled that about five Fulanis were killed last month at Gindin Dutse, close to the area.
