The Ekiti Police Command has arraigned 10 people in a chief magistrate court sitting in Ado Ekiti over conspiracy and breach of public peace by beating up a policeman.
The defendants are Ganiyu Anthony, Jimoh Kadijat, Nasiru Saibu, Ojo Ibrahim, Abdul Azeez, Umusal Ilyasu, Suleiman Jacob, Idris Onogeo, Abdulmumini Saliu and Umar Akeem.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Johnson Okunade, told the court that the defendants on September 19, 2021 about 8.00pm at Corner Camp, opposite Afe Babalola Multi-System Hospital, Ado Ekiti, conspired and caused the breach of public peace by using Ebira language to mobilise and attack one Corporal Adesemori Olatunbosun.
Inspector Okunade said the defendants beat up a police officer and tore his uniform while he was performing his lawful duty.
The prosecutor said the offence is contrary to and punishable under sections 516, 249 and 356 of the Criminal Code Cap C16 vol. 1, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The Magistrate, Mr A. Oyebanji, granted the defendants bail of N50,000 each with one surety, who must have landed property within Ado-Ekiti magisterial district and adjourned the case until October 11, 2021, for hearing.
