The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has so far distributed food items to the doorsteps of about 10,433 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Taraba.

This was disclosed by the leader of NEMA team and Deputy Director, Rescue and Relief, Sanusi Ado, at the IDP camp in Mutum Biyu in Gassol Local Government Area on September 29. The distribution exercise continues the distribution campaign flagged off by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in Maiduguri in June this year. The direct delivery campaign is designed to eliminate middlemen from the chain of distribution of relief materials to IDPs or reduce their involvement to the barest minimum to prevent diversion.

According to Mr. Ado, NEMA is distributing 50kg of maize, 25kg of Sorghum and 25 kg of beans to each household across the nine local government areas of the state. He said that the agency is committed to addressing the basic needs of IDPs with particular emphasis on their nutritional requirements. The NEMA chief promised that all 10,433 enumerated IDPs in the state would receive the food aid they are entitled to delivered to them directly by agency officials. The leader of the IDP camp, Umar Shuaibu, expressed appreciation to NEMA for the delivery since food had become a major challenge for most of the IDPs in the camp. He called for the delivery of medical supplies to aid the sick who cannot afford medical bills.
