A police officer and three personnel of Darlon Security Surveillance Service are feared killed as a boat conveying them capsized between Okumugbene and Odewari close in Southern Ijaw LGA of Bayelsa State.
According to a source, the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when policemen and civilian personnel of the oil surveillance company were on patrol duty.

He, however, claimed that a gunboat which mistook the surveillance team for pirates attacked the boat before it capsized.
The police spokesman in the state, SP Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the incident, said one policeman was killed, while three other security personnel were still missing.
He said, “On July 25, 2022, at about 2000hrs, a boat conveying policemen on surveillance capsized in Korokorosei waterways, Southern Ijaw LGA. One policeman’s body was recovered while three are missing.
“The command is yet to establish the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident. Divers have been deployed to the area for rescue of the missing persons.”
