One person was allegedly killed when violence broke out during the general election of Enugwu-Agidi Town Union in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State. This was made known on Tuesday by the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Michael Okekeuche, in a statement by his publicity secretary,Vince Onyekwulu, which was made available to journalists in Awka, Anambra State capital.
He said Anayo Nworah, 28, was beaten to death in the process of electioneering; resulting in the cancellation of the community’s general election earlier slated for this festive period of the year.
He asked the general public to remain calm and law-abiding.
He stressed that as the chief security officer of the community, after consulting with some stakeholders, he decided to cancel the election for peace.
Onyekwulu said the cancellation of the election was to forestall further breakdown of law and order, violence and breach of peace.
When contacted, the spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the police had no knowledge of any death resulting from any town union crisis.
