Deputy village chief of Okordia Akumoni community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Chief Bob Wilson, has been shot dead when people suspected to be herders invaded the community Monday night.
A few other persons were also injured in the clash at a fishing settlement popularly known as ‘Lake Sam’ in the area.
The killing of the deputy village chief has however created tension in the community.
Most of the people injured are said to be fishermen doing their businesses in the area and planting okro, pepper, and others agricultural produce.

Just last week, a farmer was hacked to death at the neigbouring Zarama community before Tuesday’s invasion of Okordia.
Police spokesman in Bayelsa State, SP Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the killing of the chief, said police had recovered the corpse while investigation was ongoing.
He said, “Suspected herdsmen killed one man in the fishing camp there, we were able to recover the corpse, he died as a result of the bullet wound as was observed in his body,” he said.
