1 killed as bandits in military uniform invade Kwara community

One person has reportedly been killed and another one injured when bandits invaded the Oreke-Okegbo community in the Ifelodun LGA of Kwara State.

City & Crime gathered that the incident occurred at the weekend when the fully armed bandits dressed in military uniforms invaded the community at about 7pm.

According to a credible source, “They shot one person at Awere River, and all efforts made by Kabiesi Oloreke to contact the army at Oro Ago proved abortive.”

“The bandits, including a woman, came into the community from a nearby village after an operation.

“What we gathered was that they were on their way to another of their camps after our community when they encountered some guards protecting some Chinese nationals in the area. Those guards thought they were soldiers when they requested a vehicle to carry their other colleagues because they were in army uniforms.

“But attempts by the guards to authenticate their claims led to a disagreement and they left to lay ambush before attacking two people and killing one in the process.

“After the attack, they got stuck at the Awere River after Babanla town due to the volume of the water and they could not cross, until the following morning when they were able to escape,” he said.

The monarch added, “They are not herdsmen but spoke Hausa sparingly, I suspect they are foreign nationals from neighbouring countries.”

Reacting to the incident, the spokeswoman for the state Police Command, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, said “The command is aware of this information” adding “We are investigating it”.

“Notwithstanding, all security measures have been put in place to protect the lives and properties of Kwarans. Further developments will be communicated soon,” she added.
