At least one person shot and killed while dozens of travellers have been forcefully taken away along Maiduguri-Damaturu highway when suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents attacked in Borno state on Friday evening, sources said.
It was learnt that the outlawed group attacked motorists at about 5 pm at Kondiri village near Jakana town in Konduga local government area of the state on Friday abducting all passengers on board a hummer bus and injuring four others.
According to eyewitness Modu Usman who narrowly escaped the attacks, the insurgents dressed in military camouflage and with two Toyota Hilux mounted with anti-aircraft gun station by the roadside in the manner of military troops.
“God saved us, our driver has experienced that road, when we are approaching them. Already the hummer bus and two golf cars have been intercepted and motorists stopped, so they started shooting and we made a u-turn into bushes.
“So they allowed golf cars to go but all the passengers. We returned to Benishek town to pass the night. This morning we saw four vehicles including a truck with the marking of Dangote company conveying cement burnt down,” Usman said.
A top vigilante source also confirmed the incident, but said only one person was killed and four others injured when insurgents waylaid the motorists. but an unspecified number of passengers were kidnapped by the insurgents.
The source added that they have reported the case to the DPO of the Police Auno Division.
Similarly, suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers attacked in Konduga town on Friday, killing five and wounding others in the explosion.
