1 dead, 3 injured in Edo as monarch bans CDA activities

One person has been reportedly killed while three others wounded following the crisis over the ban on Community Development Association (CDA) activities in Ubiaza Community in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

The community’s acting Odionwere, Pa Joe Osaheni, who disclosed this to journalists Monday in Benin, the state capital, said trouble started when some people engaged in CDA activities despite the ban by Oba of Benin, Ewuare II.

He blamed one Osabuohen Osagiede Uhunmwangho for the crisis, which also caused the destruction of property worth millions of naira.

He appealed to security agencies to intervene to prevent loss of more lives.

Reacting, Osagiede Uhunmwangho denied the allegation, saying he is neither from the community nor resides there.

“I don’t have knowledge of what they are talking about. They just want to tarnish my reputation,” he said.

The state police spokesperson, DSP Kontongs Bello, said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.
