One person died and three others sustained injuries on Monday in an auto crash on the Gbongan/Ibadan expressway in Osun State while 17 others were injured when a trailer crashed at Abaji on the Abuja-Lokoja road last Thursday.

The Osun accident involved a Toyota Sienna car with registration number WWD 172 AA which somersaulted and crashed.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Osun, Kudirat Ibrahim, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust.

Speaking through the FRSC Public Relations Officer, Agnes Ogungbemi, the sector commander said the accident was caused by over speeding.

She said apart from the person that died in the accident, three others sustained serious injuries and were taken to OAU Teaching hospital while the corpse of the dead victim was taken to OAUTH morgue.

In the Abaji crash, in which 17 people sustained injuries, Daily Trust gathered that a trailer crashed on Thursday night near St. Peters Catholic Church in the town on Abuja-Lokoja road.

A witness said the accident happened around 8:34 pm when a Daf trailer with registration number T-0129YB lost control while on speed and crashed into a ditch by the roadside.

He said those injured were sitting at the back of the articulated vehicle which was fully loaded with bags of rice.

He said the trailer, which caused obstruction was later removed from the road.

When contacted, the Abaji unit commander of the FRSC, ACC Abubakar Shehu Dogondaji, confirmed the accident, which he attributed to speeding and loss of control.
