The National AIDS, Viral Hepatitis and STIs Control Programme (NASCP) said its efforts at combating HIV/AIDS and STIs leveraging on global support have yielded positive results.

The National Coordinator of NASCP, Dr Adebobola Bashorun, who disclosed this, said it was in addition to putting in place several response mechanisms aimed at reducing the impact of HIV/AIDS and ensuring that people living with HIV (PLHIV) in Nigeria received quality services.

Daily Trust reports that the federal government has benefitted from the PEPFAR (US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief), Global Fund, AHF and other partners.

Bashorun, in a statement made available to our correspondent, said NASCP undertook monitoring and supportive supervisory visits to HIV service delivery points across 15 states and the FCT to ensure sustainable systems strengthening.

It would be recalled that Global Fund, through the Family Health International (FHI 360), recently in Lagos, handed over 72 Toyota Hilux vans and laboratory diagnostic equipment procured through a Global Fund grant to the federal government in its fight against HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.

The facilities were received by the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Tunji Alausa.

With the support, the NASCP coordinator stated that with the activities in the first quarter of 2024, the federal government had reached “laudable milestones towards achieving HIV epidemic control.”

He disclosed that the Early Infant Diagnosis (EID) Optimisation Toolkit in Nigeria in collaboration with the Elizabeth Glaser Paediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) had been introduced and launched, saying, “The EID Optimization Toolkit is positioned as a valuable resource, addressing not only EID programme indicators, but also enhancing overall care for mothers, infants and families in HIV epidemic control.”
