The police in Nasarawa State have arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly killing his wife.

The suspect, Caleb Danjuma of Washo village in Nassarawa Eggon LGA of the state, was alleged to have killed his wife, Precious Danjuma, 27, for allegedly refusing to wash his clothes.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Ahmed, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspect was in police custody and investigation has since commenced for the prosecution of the suspect.

Daily Trust gathered that Danjuma allegedly hit Precious with a pestle on the head and that it was her shout for help that attracted sympathisers, but that she died before she could be taken to Hospital in Akwanga.

Sources close to the family revealed that the couple, who have been married for some years, was known for constant domestic violence. The couple has two children, with the second, a son who is still breastfeeding, just 10 months old.

A witness, who doesn’t want to be named, said Danjuma allegedly hit his wife with the pestle after she refused to wash his clothes. “He asked her to escort him to the toilet around 11pm. It was at the back yard, and while on their way, he hit her with pestle.”

He added that when he noticed his wife was dead, he ran to his pastor’s house and later disappeared before he was apprehended by vigilante group in the area and handed over to police.

The corpse of the deceased has been deposited in the mortuary at the hospital.
