The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of 20,000 naira cash to Rural Women under Grant for Rural Women Project with a target of 4,000 women in Kaduna State.

According to the FG, the 4000 women will be selected across the 23 Local Government Area of the state.

The programme was introduced in 2020 to sustain the social inclusion agenda of President Buhari’s Administration.

Permanent Secretary, Bashir Nura Alkali, Represented the Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development Minister at the Flag-Off of the Project and Symbolic Disbursement held in Kaduna State.

He explained that “it is consistent with President Muhammad Buhari’s national vision of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in 10 years.

He said the program was designed to provide a one-off grant to some of the poorest and most vulnerable women in rural and peri-urban areas of the country.

“A cash grant of N20,000.00 will be disbursed to about 125,000 poor women across the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

“Our target in Kaduna State is to disburse the grant to over 4,000 beneficiaries across the 23 Local Government Councils. The grant is expected to increase income and productive assets of target beneficiaries,” he said.

The  representative of the Minister said “the National social investment programme has impacted positively on the lives of the poor and vulnerable in Nigeria as over 12 million households have benefitted from the interventions in the last 5 years.

He also expressed hope that the beneficiaries of the programme will make good use of the grant to generally contribute towards improving their
living standard.

In her remark, Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Hadiza Balarabe said “COVID-19 is still impacting negatively in the lives of people especially women.

She said the cash disbursement will no doubt bring succor to women in the society.

The State Commissioner Human Services and social Development, Hafsat Baba commended the Humanitarian ministry for focusing on rural women in Kaduna state.
