Two persons were arrested at the Kogi State workers’ secretariat in Lokoja for allegedly vandalising electric transformer/ generator supplying light to the secretariat.

City & Crime gathered that the incident happened around 2am yesterday when the vandals invaded the secretariat and cut off the electric cables and removed other vital components of the generator servicing the main workers’ secretariat.

It was reported that the security in the secretariat got wind of their presence and mobilised themselves, which led to the arrest of the two vandals, while others were said to have escaped in the process.

“We resumed at the working place yesterday morning to see two suspected vandals being paraded by the security guards at the secretariat with assorted charms and other lethal weapons,” said Mallam Yunusa Abubakar, a worker at the secretariat.

The arrested vandals were reportedly handed over to the security operatives for investigation and prosecution.

According to the state Public Relations Officer(PRO), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence  Corps (NSCDC), Aliyu Mohammed, the suspects, Jimoh Jamiu and Rabilu Salisu are already in their custody and undergoing interrogation.

He told City & Crime that the suspects claimed to be on their way to buy ice water block from a nearby hotel when they were accosted and arrested by the security guards.

He added that one claimed to be an Okada rider and the other, an ice block seller, who was on his legitimate business trip at that hour of the night.
